ANDERSON, CA (May 2, 2026) “Slip slidin’ away… the nearer your destination, the more you’re slip slidin’ away.”
That lyric from Paul Simon perfectly captured the night for B&G Motorsports and driver Eric Gannon at Shasta Speedway—an evening defined by speed, determination, and a hard-fought battle against a mechanical issue that ultimately denied a podium finish.

After a challenging qualifying session placed the #02 ZL1 Camaro 11th on the starting grid, the team remained confident.
The car showed exceptional balance and speed early, and Gannon quickly began working his way through the field with precision and patience.
As the race unfolded, however, an issue began to emerge. On restarts, the car failed to respond with its usual drive off the corners. Under heavy throttle, the engine would rev—but the forward bite wasn’t there.
The diagnosis became clear: a slipping clutch.
Despite the growing challenge, Gannon dug deep, continuing to charge forward against the field. Restart after restart, he adapted, managed the problem, and refused to give up track position. By lap 90 of the 125-lap main event, that perseverance paid off—Gannon had climbed into third place.
Then, opportunity struck.
A tangle between the leaders opened the door, and the #02 B&G Motorsports Camaro surged into the race lead.
With the crowd on its feet and victory within reach, the field lined up for the restart.
But just as the green flag dropped, the clutch issue that had been looming all night became decisive. The loss of grip worsened dramatically, and despite Gannon’s best efforts, the car could no longer transfer power effectively. Several competitors slipped past, and moments later, the clutch failed completely.
The result: a DNF (Did Not Finish)—a tough ending to a night that had all the makings of a breakthrough win.

A Championship-Caliber Performance
While the final result won’t show it, the performance did.
• Advanced from 11th to the lead
• Demonstrated top-tier speed and handling
• Battled adversity while maintaining front-running pace
“This one hurts,” said team owner Roy Berlinghoff. “We had a car capable of winning, no question about it. Eric drove the wheels off it. Sometimes racing deals you a tough hand—but we’re proud of the fight, and we know exactly what we’ve got.”
⸻
Looking Ahead
B&G Motorsports will regroup, address the issue, and return stronger for the next event. With the pace shown on May 2nd, the team remains firmly in the hunt—and confident that a trip to Victory Lane is well within reach.
